Have you ever attempted to meditate but found yourself feeling frustrated and unable to achieve any level of calmness or relaxation? I certainly have!

It's important not to judge your meditation skills, as doing so can increase your stress. Remember that meditation takes practice, and it's common for your mind to wander during meditation, regardless of how much experience you have. If you're using meditation to calm your mind and find that your attention drifts, gently bring your focus back to the object, sensation, or movement you were originally concentrating on.
Experiment, and you'll likely find out what types of meditation work best for you and what you enjoy doing. Adapt meditation to your needs at the moment. Remember, there's no right way or wrong way to meditate. What matters is that meditation helps you reduce your stress and feel better overall.
Here is 5 must-know tips for starting your meditation journey.

Let's Keep Things Simple.
When it comes to meditation, it's important to remember that it's a practice, not an event. Just like with sports or musical instruments, the more attention and dedication we put into the practice, the more we'll see results. If you find that you're not doing it "right," remember that there is no right or wrong way to meditate. It's a personal practice, and our goal is simply to achieve a moment of peace and stillness in our mind and body.

Get Comfortable
It's important to take the time to find a comfortable spot for meditating, whether it's indoors or outdoors. If possible, meditating outdoors can be incredibly powerful, as the sounds of nature can help you relax. However, some people find comfort in meditating in their living room or office space. Regardless of where you choose to meditate, make sure to sit in a comfortable position that is free from outside distractions that can fill your mind. Sit with a long, straight back, and if lying down, use a pillow or blanket if needed to find a comfortable position. You can also try adding incense or a small water fountain to your space to boost the ambiance.

Clear Your Mind
Close your eyes and take a deep breath. As you exhale, imagine that you are letting go of everything that no longer serves you. Inhale deeply as if you are smelling a flower and exhale slowly like you are blowing out a candle. Focus on your body and bring your awareness to it. Feel it relaxing with each breath. Imagine you are being pulled by gravity towards the earth. Meditation doesn't necessarily mean that we have to completely blank out our minds. It's more like mindfulness – the idea of being completely in the moment, so much so that we don't have any intrusive thoughts.

My Non-So-Secret Trick
Expressing gratitude is a powerful emotion that can help you deal with impatience, intrusive thoughts, or a racing mind. If you haven't practiced gratitude before, start small. For instance, appreciate the roof over your head, food in the cupboards, or a hot shower when you need it. These things may seem insignificant, but they are essential for our daily lives. In every situation, there is always something to be grateful for, and when we express gratitude, negativity cannot harm us.

Reflection
Once you complete your meditation, take your time to ease out of it. Starting a meditation journal can be helpful, as it allows you to monitor your progress and document your experience. Reflect on any intrusive thoughts, how your body felt, any sensations you experienced, or anything else you would like to record.
